LAS VEGAS, NV (January 4, 2006) — Panasonic, the leader in high definition and plasma TV, once again demonstrates its commitment to excellence by expanding upon its 2005 award-winning plasma line-up with the introduction of six new HD plasma TVs, including a spectacular 65-inch (diagonal screen measurement) 1080p TV.

The 2006 line builds upon the superior quality and reputation Panasonic has established with exciting new picture improving technologies in the flat-panel display arena for almost a decade. Additionally, the entire HD plasma line has been redesigned with stunning cosmetics, nearly invisible built-in speakers (except TH-65PX600U) and a new panel, taking picture quality to a whole new level. Other standard features include an SD memory card slot, integrated NTSC/ATSC1/QAM tuners, HDMI inputs with HDAVI Control function and front A/V jacks for easy connection to camcorders.

The new plasma panels are capable of reproducing up to 3072 levels of gradation, enabling an equivalent 29 billion displayable colors. Panasonic’s HD plasmas boast a maximum contrast ratio of 10,000:13, assuring the blackest blacks and whitest whites, all of which adds up to a spectacular picture with high resolution and outstanding color reproduction.

“This past year, one of the country’s most respected consumer publications rated Panasonic’s HD and ED 42-inch plasma sets at the top of their categories,” said Andrew Nelkin, Vice President of Panasonic’s Display Group. “Panasonic is escalating plasma panel production and development, expanding our efforts to provide consumers with the quality and innovation they have come to expect from our brand.”

The TH-65PX600U is the flagship of Panasonic’s new plasma line with an incredible resolution of 1920 x 1080P. This 65-inch model is joined by two native resolution, HD models, the TH-50PX600U and TH-42PX600U. All include advanced features such as a TV Guide On-Screen™ Electronic Program Guide, PC input and a CableCARD2 slot - a feature that eliminates the need for a separate set-top box to receive HD signals via cable.

Rounding out Panasonic’s HD line includes models TH-50PX60U, TH-42PX60U and TH-37PX60U. A new feature in 2006 to this line, the SD Memory Card slot with Photo Viewer4 , allows consumers to take an SD card directly from a digital still camera or camcorder and insert it directly into the TV, making it fast and easy to enjoy slide shows of their favorite photos on the big screen. Completing the line is the TH-42PD60U, an ED set with a resolution of 852 x 480p.

Panasonic dominated the plasma TV market throughout 2005 and fully expects to continue its success in 2006. “Throughout much of 2005, one out of every two plasmas sold in the United States was a Panasonic model,” noted Nelkin.

“Panasonic is well-positioned to strengthen its leadership status,” said Nelkin. “With the recent opening of a new factory in Japan, our production capacity is expected to reach about 5 million panels per year in 2006. From R&D to the manufacturing of panels and electronics, to control of the production process, Panasonic is setting the benchmark from start to finish.”

Panasonic lanseres også en 103" plasma TV. DET hadde vært noe å hadd på veggen. (hvis den hadde tålt det)

Las Vegas, NV (January 4, 2006) — Panasonic, the leading brand for which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (NYSE: MC) is best known, today announced it has developed a prototype of a 103-inch plasma display panel (PDP) with 1080p (progressive) HDTV resolution. The prototype can deliver more than two million pixels (1,920 x 1,080) of performance. Panasonic will show this super-large-size prototype at its booth at the 2006 International CES to be held in Las Vegas from January 5 to 8.

In flat panel displays, plasma has technical advantages over other technologies, including LCD, when it comes to making larger size panels. Nevertheless, there are numerous technical challenges in making plasma panels that are larger than 100 inches measured diagonally while maintaining stable discharge and high picture quality across the entire surface of the panel.

Panasonic has overcome these technical hurdles by developing a new rib* and phosphor for these super large panels. The 103-inch 1080p plasma panel, equivalent to four 50-inch panels in size, features consistent and uniform discharge, delivering the same accurate images from the center to every corner of the screen and brightness as the current 50-inch HD model (TH-50PX500). The panel incorporates Panasonic’s 1080p HD high-speed pixel drive. The same high-speed pixel drive is used in the TH-65PX500 65-inch 1080p Plasma TV, which has been well received in Japan since its introduction last November, and the 50-inch 1080p Plasma unveiled at CEATEC JAPAN 2005 in October 2005.

Mr. Hiroyuki Nagano, Director, PDP Device Business Unit of Panasonic AVC Networks Company, said, “Demand for large-screen and high picture quality TVs is expected to further increase as digital HD broadcasting service continues to expand throughout the world. Also penetration of HD contents as well as Blu-ray Disc recorders and players will drive demand. Since Plasma is a self-illuminating device, it offers superior characteristics on several measures including dynamic contrast, true-to-life color reproduction, quick response time for sports and programs with fast-moving images and a wider viewing angle, an important factor for large screen display. These features make the Plasma panel an ideal device for a large screen TV, and, as a result, global demand for Plasma TV is growing rapidly.”

“Until now, the market for 100-plus-inch screens was dominated by front projection TVs. Panasonic now realizes another option in this sector. Our 103-inch 1080p PDP promises high quality images with high brightness, dynamic contrast, high resolution and excellent color reproduction that projection displays cannot match. We believe it will create strong demand as a multipurpose display for business, educational and medical applications as well as home theater use,” said Mr. Nagano.

Committed to providing customers with a better visual experience based on its Ideas for Life brand statement, Panasonic continues to accelerate innovation of its unique panel, drive and process technologies for higher quality large-screen plasma displays.

Panasonic owns 21 Japanese and five overseas patents on the product including current applications.

Blir spennende. Blir nok en PV60 eller PV600 her i gården.

Her ser det ut som om PV60 har 2HDMI og PC inngang. Litt merkelig hvis det er tilfellet. Da blir det ikke store forskjellen mellom denne og PV600.
